  • Orlando Pirates dropped points in their game against Cape Town Spurs ahead of Soweto Derby
  • The Buccaneers failed to move to second on the PSL table before their clash with Kaizer Chiefs
  • Fans have criticised some Pirates players and the referee for the poor performance against Spurs

Orlando Pirates missed the chance to move up on the Premier Soccer League table after being held to a 1-1 draw against Cape Town Spurs ahead of Kaizer Chiefs clash.

The Bucs were gunning for second place before the game but could not get it done due to the resurgence of Spurs under their new manager, Ernst Middendorp.

The Buccaneers scored the game's first goal through Relebohile Mofokeng, but Gabriel Gadiel Michael's late strike cancelled his goal.

The Urbans Warriors were able to secure a point in the game due to Pirates forwards missing a lot of clear scoring chances.

According to a report by GOAL, fans criticised the Buccaneers players for their poor performance ahead of the mouth-watering clash against Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby.

One said:

"If they think they were denied a clear penalty, they can go to the nearest police station and open a case."

A fan claimed they're weak:

"Pirates is weak; the only thing their supporters know is to talk; the way they are talking, you would think they are number two on the PSL log, but they are number 5 😭 just a point above Kaizer Chiefs."

Another said:

"The referee, Maswanganyi and Kimvuidi, need to be arrested."

A fan lamented that:

"Failing to beat Cape Town Spurs for a team gunning for second spot is a crazy business."

The Bucs next game in the league would be against their city rivals as they hope to bounce back from their draw against Spurs.

Soweto Derby best moments

Sports Brief earlier listed the best moments in the Soweto Derby during their first meeting in the DStv Premiership this season in November.

The obvious moment was goal scorer Evidence Makgopa receiving a yellow card in the first minute for a cynical tackle on a Kaizer Chiefs defender.
