  • Manchester City's UCL clash with FC Copenhagen ended in favour of the hosts
  • The scoreline saw Pep's men set a new record in a major European competition
  • Manuel Akanji, Julian Alvarez, and Erling Haaland all scored in the UCL match

English giants, Manchester City, have yet again inked their name in the history books of European football following their victory over FC Copenhagen on Wednesday night.

Pep Guardiola's charges hammered the Danish side 3-1 in the second leg of their Champions League Round of 16 to advance to the quarters.

City took a significant step towards advancing to the next round after they won 3-1 in the first leg of the tie played in Denmark last week.

The reigning champions got the job done in the second leg with a 6-2 aggregate, with Manuel Akanji, Julian Alvarez, and Erling Haaland all scoring at the Etihad Stadium.

According to SPORTbible, Haaland's goal in the tie saw him equal Sergio Aguero's Champions League tally of 41 goals, with the Norwegian now the 19th top scorer in European Cup history.

Man City make European history

But more than Haaland's heroics, City also made European history during the Copenhagen clash.

OptaJoe reports that the Citizens are now the first team in history to score three or more goals in nine consecutive home matches in major European competitions.

City have enjoyed an incredible run of form across competitions in recent weeks, having also hammered rivals Manchester United 3-1 in the Premier League last weekend.

The Manchester club will be keen to build on the momentum when they take on Liverpool on Sunday, March 10, in a top-of-the-table clash.

Only one point separates the two Premier League title contenders ahead of the Anfield showdown.

Man City rated among best clubs

Earlier, Sports Brief also reported on Jamie Carragher naming Man City among the best clubs in the world right now.

The former Liverpool defender said Real Madrid are quite a long way short of being among the best clubs in Europe.

Los Blancos recorded a narrow 2-1 aggregate victory over RB Leipzig to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.
