Mikel Obi has stated he is working behind the scenes to convince Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen, to join Chelsea and follow in the footsteps of other Nigerians before him.
The 25-year-old forward has been strongly linked with a summer move to the Blues as Mauricio Pochettino continues his search for a marquee striker to join the Premier League club.
According to Complete Sports, Mikel, speaking at Web Summit Qatar, assured Chelsea fans he is working pretty hard to convince Osimhen to snub other offers and join Chelsea in the summer.
"I think he loves the club, he wants to come to the club, obviously he wants to follow in my footsteps as a Nigerian player who has played for Chelsea, like Victor Moses, Celestine Babayaro, there’s not a lot of us.

"But [Osimhen] also has a lot of interest, like PSG, Man United, but I’m still pushing, sending him messages, trying to make sure he doesn’t expect too much, just narrow your mind on one club: the Blues!"
Napoli is resigned to losing Osimhen in the summer due to the pedigree of clubs interested in signing the Nigerian, but the Serie A club is expected to demand over €100 million for his services.
Meanwhile, some Chelsea supporters are elated with the recent comments of Mikel after his remarks on trying to get the Napoli striker to sign for the Blues in the summer.
On X (formerly Twitter), Blues supporter, Sacha Tavolieri (@sachatavolieri), bragged everyone knows Chelsea was Osimhen's favourite club:
"it’s coming bro ❤️ we all know it’s his favorite choice and I’ve been revealed it already ❤️ take care of you Ben hope you are fine mate."

FootballAnother Chelsea supporter, 𝐕𝐀𝐑 ☘️ (@Ziyechman), heaved a sigh of relief that the Blues can finally have a world-class striker if they eventually sign Osimhen from Napoli.
"We can finally brag about having a top quality striker."
Gbenga Hoegunwo (@iampago) had a contrary opinion to the others as he believes Chelsea will not be the right fit for Osimhen as he would miss out on Champions League football next season.
"I'm afraid, Chelsea is not a good destination for him. PSG is better. We want to see Victor play in Uefa Champions League."
Osimhen has a running contract with Napoli until 2026, but the Nigerian forward has been tipped to leave for a bigger European club this summer.
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has admitted it would be difficult to keep Osimhen with rich clubs showing interest in him.
Arsenal, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain are in a three-way battle to sign the Nigerian attacker in the summer transfer window and he seems set to exit the club.
