  • Victor Osimhen was on the scoresheet as Napoli forced a 1-1 stalemate with Barcelona
  • The Nigerian international has been the subject of transfer speculation in recent times
  • Former Arsenal and France striker Thierry Henry has a message for the ex-Lille striker

Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry, has reacted to Victor Osimhen's strike as Napoli forced a 1-1 draw with Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.

Having helped Nigeria to finish the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations as runners-up, Osimhen returned to Europe and was in the starting line-up against the Catalan giants.

The 25-year-old has continued to make the transfer news as his future with the Partenopei remains uncertain.

English Premier League clubs Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United have made enquiries about the player, as well as Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

Napoli have placed a heavy price tag on the striker, and his goal against Barcelona would make more clubs jostle for his signature.

Reacting to the player's potential transfer, Henry responded to Jamie Carragher's question on Osimhen. The Frenchman said, as per Soccernet:

“I think he needed that today. At the AFCON, we saw he could lead the line, he runs into the channels, he can hold the ball, and he is clever to understand how to roll defenders. I do think that he needed that goal.
“I would like to see what he can do in the Prem (Premier League) or Paris-Saint Germain. I don’t know where he is going to go, but I want to see him doing it every year. He did what he did to win the title at Napoli after the big man Diego Armando Maradona, and it is something that will stay forever in history."

Ijeh speaks on Osimhen's potential transfer

Sports Brief earlier reported that the future of Osimhen has become a widely discussed topic recently, particularly with the reports of Kylian Mbappe's potential departure from Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the 2023-24 season, adding fuel to speculations about the forward's potential departure from Napoli.

The prolific goal-scorer is being heavily touted as Mbappe's replacement in Luis Enrique's team, thanks to his impressive form since bursting onto the scenes.

Former Nigerian international, Peter Ijeh, emphasised the importance of the forward joining a club that aligns with his style of play.
