  • Juventus star Paul Pogba has been handed a four-year doping ban
  • The France international has broken his silence after the news
  • He has not played football since he failed a drug test in September

Juventus midfielder, Paul Pogba, has broken his silence after it was announced that he had been handed a four-year ban after testing positive for banned substances.

He was initially suspended provisionally in September after failing a random drug test in a check conducted on him on August 20, after Juve’s first match of the season.

Per BBC Sports, elevated levels of testosterone were found in his blood, and a second test in October also came back positive, leading to Italy's national anti-doping tribunal (NADO) to hand him a four-year suspension.

Pogba released a statement via his Instagram page, confirming he had been notified of the decision and promised to appeal the decision and shed light on the story.

“I have today been informed of the Tribunale Nazionale Antidoping's decision and believe that the verdict is incorrect. I am sad, shocked and heartbroken that everything I have built in my professional playing career has been taken away from me,” he wrote.
“When I am free of legal restrictions, the full story will become clear, but I have never knowingly or deliberately taken any supplements that violate anti-doping regulations.
“As a professional athlete, I would never do anything to enhance my performance by using banned substances and have never disrespected or cheated fellow athletes and supporters of any of the teams I have played for or against."
“As a consequence of the decision announced today, I will appeal this before the Court of Arbitration for Sport,” he added.

After six years at Manchester United, the French midfielder returned to Juventus in the summer of 2022, but it has been a rollercoaster for him since then. He has missed 55 games due to injury since returning to Turin.

Fans react to Pogba’s ban

Sports Brief reported on fans' reaction to Pogba's ban after it was announced that the former Manchester United star will not be able to play until August 2027.

The news came with criticism of his attitude towards football, particularly from United fans who slammed him for wasting his talents as he did not take his career seriously enough.
