  • Gabriel Osho, who has been impressive for Luton Town, has expressed a desire to play for Nigeria
  • His teammate, Elijah Adebayo, would also love to represent the West African nation of his descent
  • Adebayo is in the history books as the first Luton player to score a hat-trick in the Premier League

England-born footballers of Nigerian descent, Elijah Adebayo and Gabriel Osho, are said to be willing to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The Luton Town stars were born to Nigerian parents and have yet to make an international appearance at any level.

They are eligible to represent both England and Nigeria, but it seems they prefer to honour their African roots.

Adebayo has been impressive in front of goal, netting nine goals in 23 Premier League matches this season. The 26-year-old found the back of the net against Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester City.

He also made history, becoming the first Luton Town player to score a hat-trick in the Premier League when he netted three times in their 4-0 rout of Brighton and Hove Albion in January.

Speaking on where his international future lay, Adebayo told The Times, as per Leadership:

"I would like to play for Nigeria. It would make my mum happy, make her proud. That’s something we’ve spoken about.
"Playing for England? It would be a case of whichever comes first. My mum would be proud if I played for Nigeria or England, but Nigeria especially."

On his part, Osho has made 14 Premier League appearances for the club, helping them to four wins, three draws, and two clean sheets.

Sports Brief spoke with UK-based football expert, David Doherty, who confirmed Osho had expressed his availability for Nigeria:

"Gabriel Osho is doing very well. He's going to be a good addition to what we have in the defence. Bringing in other boys to join will ease the pressure off the likes of [William] Troost-Ekong and [Kenneth] Omeruo."

Peseiro names toughest opponent at AFCON

Sports Brief earlier reported the buzz has continued despite AFCON 2023 reaching its pinnacle with an intense final showdown between Ivory Coast and Nigeria.

In the days following the culmination of the continental tournament, discussion continues over the host nation's miracle run and the Super Eagles near miss.

Nigeria national coach, Jose Peseiro, chatted to South Africa manager, Hugo Broos, after the final and discussed the team's most difficult encounter at the AFCON.
