Legendary Nigerian forward Nwankwo Kanu travelled to Abidjan for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final against host nation Cote d'Ivoire.

The former Arsenal attacker was at the Alassane Ouattara stadium in Ebimpe as the Super Eagles chase a fourth AFCON title.

Having started slow, the three-time champions broke the deadlock moments before half-time through defender and captain William Troost-Ekong.

The Greece-based centre-back rose high to header home after Ivory Coast failed to clear their lines following a corner kick.

Kanu stood off his seat to celebrate as Nigeria took the advantage into the break, as spotted on social media.

Nigeria remain favourite in the final, having already beaten their opponents in the group stage.

However, the Ivorian produced an improved performance in the first half, coming close a number of times with Simon Adingra effort cleared by Stanley Nwabali.

Meanwhile, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, Salomon Kalou, Didier Drogba and Abedi Pele are the other legends watching the game in Abidjan.

The Super Eagles will be hoping to keep their lead and finish the game as victors.

Nigerian celebrities poised ahead of AFCON final

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that top Nigerian musicians and celebrities joined the Africa Cup of Nations frenzy following the Super Eagles' progress to the final of the tournament.

The three-time champions will face host nation Ivory Coast in the final at the Alassane Outtara Stadium in Ebimpe on Sunday.

Having already beaten the same side at the group stage, Nigeria will be hoping to repeat their success over the Elephants in the final.

Oshoala trolls Ghanaians on social media

Sports Brief also reported that Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala took a subtle dig at Ghanaians following Nigeria's qualification to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The Super Eagles defeated South Africa on penalties to keep their dreams of winning a fourth AFCON title alive.

Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was the hero of the night after saving two penalties as Nigeria won 4-2 to secure their place in Sunday's final.
