The stats say the Reds have fallen victim to incorrect VAR calls four times, the most of any club in English top flight to date.

The attacker was through on goal and found the net during the October 2023 match, but his goal was disallowed, and the decision went to VAR for a double-check. The goal eventually did not stand, and Liverpool went on to lose the game 2-1, with Jurgen Klopp calling for a replay in vain.

Brighton and Wolves have had three crucial VAR calls go against them, with the latter having a penalty denied on the opening day of the 2023/24 campaign despite a blatant foul by Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Arsenal have also fallen victim to the VAR and have had two decisions go against them this season. Eight other Premier League sides have also fallen victim, with one crucial VAR error to date.

The main mistakes made by VAR

Since the 2022/23 campaign, the VAR officials have been responsible for different errors, although the mistake involving incorrect overturning of decisions has been curbed significantly in 2023/24.

However, one mistake the VAR tends to make is missing key calls, and this has happened 17 times this season, compared to 18 times the whole of last season.

Sports Brief also reported on some Liverpool stars who have been banned from touching the ‘This is Anfield’ sign.

Klopp reportedly put a stop to the tradition in 2016, when Liverpool was struggling to win trophies.
