AFCON 2023: Ex Nigeria Star Warns Super Eagles Not to Underestimate Angola

The Super Eagles have been advised to approach their Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final fixture against Angola as they did against Cameroon in the Round of 16, to avoid any upsets.

The Black Antelopes have been one of the surprise teams of the tournament so far, as Pedro Goncalves's team are yet to taste defeat in all four matches played in the tournament.

According to Daily Post, ex-Nigeria international, Ifeanyi Udeze, cautioned the Super Eagles against underrating Angola as he reckoned they would be a difficult team for the three-time AFCON winners to navigate.

"I have played against Angola in the past and whenever they play Nigeria, they always put in everything. The Eagles should approach the game against Angola just like the way they did in the game with Cameroon."

Nigeria is seeking to end its 11-year wait to win the Nations Cup with its last triumph coming back in 2013 when the Super Eagles defeated Burkina Faso 1-0 in the final.

Simon promises best against Angola

Meanwhile, Nigeria winger, Moses Simon has said the Super Eagles will do their best to beat the Palancas Negras of Angola in their quarter-final tie, Complete Sports reports.

Simon said the game against the Black Antelopes would be as difficult as their previous ties against Ivory Coast and Cameroon, and the Super Eagles must be at their best to triumph.

Nigeria are considered the overwhelming favourites for the Africa Cup of Nations title following the early exits of defending champions Senegal, plus Morocco, Cameroon, Algeria, and Ghana.

Nigeria are AFCON 2023 favourites

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Nigeria are the favourites for AFCON 2023 from all the eight countries left in the tournament in Ivory Coast.

A few days before the tournament began, the Super Eagles was not regarded as competition favourites because they had done nothing to inspire.

Nigeria has only conceded once in Ivory Coast, defeating the hosts and Cameroon in the process, and will hope toas manager Jose Peseiro will be hoping number one goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali is fit to continue.
