According to the Guardian, the Nigerian football body has blamed its inability to settle Super Eagles’ allowances on the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) delay in releasing the funds meant for the tournament.

The Federal Government declared a N12.5 billion fund for the team's campaign and other pressing concerns. However, the players have yet to get their allowances due to the CBN's delay in releasing the funds.

So far, the Super Eagles have played four matches at the AFCON, winning their last three games against Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau and Cameroon after their draw against Equatorial Guinea on the opening day.

Nigeria not at its best

Meanwhile, Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has reiterated that the team is yet to reach their peak after qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals, Complete Sports reports.

The 25-year-old forward claimed the Super Eagles have not played their best football yet after dispatching arch-rivals Cameroon 2-0 in the Round of 16 on Saturday, January 27.

The Super Eagles have won three and drawn one of their four games and will face Angola next in the quarterfinals as they seek to win the AFCON for the first time since 2013.

Jose Peseiro feels Angola's threat

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro was pleased with Nigeria’s performance in the knockout rounds but advised them not to underestimate Angola.

Nigeria set up a quarter-final clash against Angola following an impressive 2-0 win over arch-rivals Cameroon in the Round of 16 on Saturday.

Ademola Lookman scored both goals for the three-time AFCON champions, who, despite having less possession, were the superior team overall.
