Hugo Broos: South Africa Coach Hails Bafana Bafana After AFCON 2023 Round of 16 Qualification

Head coach of the South African national team, Hugo Broos, has lauded his players following their qualification for the knockout phase of the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Bafana Bafana put on an impressive show to earn a draw against Tunisia in their final group game on Wednesday night, which ended 0-0 at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium in Korhogo.

Broos explained after the game that the team executed all that he asked them to do, which saw them through to the knockout phase in Ivory Coast as a result.

South Africa, who are ranked the 12th-best team on the continent, will now take on the top-ranked side, Morocco, in the knockout phase at San Pedro's Laurent Pokou Stadium on Tuesday night.

The manager expressed satisfaction with his team's performance against the Carthage Eagles in the final group-stage game, saying all went according to plan, via Times Live:

"I don't have to tell you there's a happy coach sitting behind this microphone. I am not only happy because we've qualified for the next round, but I am also happy about the performance.

Broos said a coach would always be satisfied seeing a team working hard, fighting on the pitch, and following his game plan.

"I am also happy because I saw the bunch of guys on the bench doing as big as those on the field. They [the players who were on the bench] supported their teammates. Today, I saw a family, a team... unity," the Belgian concluded.

Doctor Khumalo hails Sphephelo Sithole

Sports Brief also earlier reported that Kaizer Chiefs legend, Doctor Khumalo singled out a Bafana Bafana star, Sphephelo 'Yaya' Sithole for praise due to his performances at AFCON 2023.

South Africa qualified for the Round of 16 of the competition after finishing second in Group E ahead of Namibia and Tunisia, setting up a meeting with the Atlas Lions of Morocco on January 30.
