  • Algeria have crashed out of the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast
  • The Fennec Foxes lost 1-0 to Mauritania in their final group game to confirm their exit
  • Fans angrily stormed the team's hotel, requiring security for Coach Djamel Belmadi.

Some travelling Algerian football fans were livid following the country's exit from the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Needing just a draw against Mauritania to progress to the knockout phase of the competition, the Fennec Foxes lost 1-0 to the Mourabitounes.

The North Africans were wasteful in front of goal, failing to find the back of the net as they missed a number of begging chances.

They conceded in the 37th minute when Mohamed Dellahi Yali struck to put Mauritania ahead.

Algeria battled hard to restore parity, but somehow, the opposition's defence was resolute, and that was how it ended.

Fans of the Desert Warriors were utterly disappointed as their team only managed to collect two points from a 1-1 draw against Angola and a 2-2 draw against Burkina Faso.

They had been considered among the favourites to win the competition as the team faced significant backlash from their supporters following the unexpected defeat to the Lions of Chinguetti.

The frustration escalated to the point where supporters attacked the team at the hotel, French Football Weekly reports.

Footage shows some disgruntled fans hurling abuses at the head coach, Djamel Belmadi, who was whisked away into the facility.

Many believed the tactician's decision to drop Riyad Mahrez seemingly backfired, as Mauritania recorded their first victory in the tournament.

The disappointment in the team’s performance and the unexpected elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations likely fueled the anger and frustration among the Fennec Foxes’ supporters.

Ghanaian Journalist Slams Black Stars

Sports Brief earlier reported that famous Ghanaian football expert, Nuhu Adams, expressed his frustration with the national team's performance and didn't hold back in criticising the players.

He emphasised the team's failure to secure a victory in the competition since their triumph at the 2019 edition in Egypt.

The sentiments of the well-known journalist reverberate throughout the sports community in Ghana, as additional footage has captured several other journalists airing their frustrations and many calling for the sack of the manager.
