  • Ghana succumbed to a 2-2 draw against Mozambique in their final group game of AFCON 2023
  • The Black Stars need some other results to go their way if they are to progress from their group
  • South African fans want to see Ghana suffer and are happy with their poor recent performances

Ghana’s AFCON 2023 dreams are all but over, and South African fans are loving it.

The Blacks Stars have failed to win a single game at the tournament and now will have to rely on other results to go their way if they have any chance of making it to the knockouts.

Ghana were in prime position to make it to the round of 16 when they led 2-0 in their game against Mozambique with 90 minutes elapsed on the clock.

As noted by The Athletic, Ghana suffered a late collapse, which saw Mozambique fight back to earn a 2-2 draw.

While Ghanaian fans and players are disappointed by the result, South Africans are celebrating the result.

Why Bafana fans are happy

The animosity between the two nations began in 2021 when Bafana were beaten 1-0 by Ghana.

Times LIVE reported that the referee awarded the Black Stars a dubious penalty during the game, which helped them claim victory.

Bafana fans have never forgiven the Ghanaians since that incident, with many saying they would curse the side going forward.

How South Africans reacted to the news

@Legit_Yolande_:

"The way Ghana have been paying since they cheated Bafana Bafana out of a final round FIFA World Cup qualifying spot."

@AnthuBantu:

"Since they robbed Bafana Bafana, Ghana has been seeing flames. 😂"

@Sphee_Saw:

"We South Africans support any team that plays against Ghana. Even if they play alone, we'll support the Stadium. We'll never forgive them for what they did to Bafana Bafana."

@khanyiqondani8:

"The good thing about Ghana, is you have electricity, go home and watch Bafana Bafana cook in the knockout stages."

Asamoah Gyan comments on controversial Ghanaian penalty

Sports Brief also previously reported on the legendary Asamoah Gyan sharing his thoughts on Ghana’s penalty versus South Africa.

The Black Stars were awarded a controversial penalty when Daniel Amartey went down in the box despite receiving little contact.

Senegalese referee, Ndiaye Maguette gave the penalty at the time but Gyan believes the Ghanaian player went down far too easily.
