The Nigerian Golden Eaglets captain, Simon Cletus, has continued to impress at the ongoing WAFU Zone B under-17 championship in Ghana as he's been named the Man of the Match against Niger Republic.

Cletus won the award in the Golden Eaglets tournament's opener against the Young Stallions of Burkina Faso, in which the game ended in a goalless draw.

In their second Group B match against Niger Republic under-17 side on Sunday, May 19, the Golden Eaglets secured their first victory in the competition courtesy of Rapha Adams' first-half goal.

Manu Garba's side held on to their one-goal lead from the first half after a player was sent off in the second period of the game.

According to a report by Complete Sports, Cletus, who is still a secondary school student, has now won back-to-back Man of the Match awards at the ongoing WAFU B U-17 tournament in Ghana.

The Golden Eaglets will continue their title defence in their next group game against Togo on Wednesday, May 22.

Simon Cletus attracts interest from European clubs

The Golden Eaglet is reportedly attracting interest from European clubs due to his performance at the ongoing WAFU tournament.

According to Score Nigeria, the Mavlon FC attacking midfielder has clubs from Croatia and England monitoring his development.

Golden Eaglets held to stalemate in WAFU

Sports Brief earlier reported that the Golden Eaglets started their WAFU U17 Championship with a goalless draw against Burkina Faso at the University of Ghana Stadium on Thursday (May 16).

Garba was unable to guide his team to a perfect start in the competition as they looked forward to the next game.

The Golden Eaglets were lucky not to concede in the 71st minute, as the Young Stallions had a good chance to win the game.
