South Africa vs. Namibia Group E Preview

Form Guide

The Brave Warriors head into this contest boasting a rich vein of form. They have won two of their last three matches, including a 1-0 upset victory over Tunisia in their opening game at AFCON 2023.

Deon Hotto starred for Namibia in that contest, scoring the match-winner in the 88th minute. He headed in Bethuel Muzeu's fantastic cross to score the game's lone goal, per the BBC.

Bafana Bafana have struggled lately, recording just one win in their last six matches. They have lost two of their last three games, including a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Mali in their Group E opener.

South Africa had an opportunity to take a 1-0 lead in that contest, but Percy Tau badly missed his penalty attempt in the first half.

Head-to-Head Matchups

South Africa are unbeaten in their last 10 matches against Namibia, recording six wins and four draws. The Brave Warriors are closing the gap, though, with their last three meetings ending in draws.

They last faced each other in the Africa Cup of Nations back in 2019 in the group stage. Bafana Bafana prevailed in that encounter, winning 1-0 through a goal by Bongani Zunga, per The Guardian.

Team News

There are no injury concerns for both teams heading into Sunday's showdown.

Hotto is expected to lead the Brave Warriors after his outstanding display against Tunisia. Tau is expected to retain his starting position despite missing his spot kick against Mali.
