The long wait is finally over.

Namibia secured their first-ever win at the Africa Cup of Nations and they did so in dramatic fashion on Tuesday.

Deon Hotto ended his country’s wait for an AFCON victory with an 88th-minute strike, sending Namibian fans into a frenzy.

Hotto’s late goal gives Namibia historic win

He sneaked in at the back post to score the game’s lone goal in the dying minutes. It was a remarkable result for Namibia, who are 87 places below Tunisia in the FIFA World Rankings, per The Guardian.

The Brave Warriors won for the first time at the Africa Cup of Nations after finishing bottom of their groups in their last three appearances in the tournament, per the BBC.

They recorded seven losses and two draws at AFCON before their win against mighty Tunisia at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium.

Fans praise Hotto and Muzeu

Fans took to social media to hail Hotto for his heroics against the third-highest African side in the FIFA rankings.

Micky Jnr wrote on X that Deon Hotto’s Man of the Match honour is well deserved.

@Levy_T_ lavished praise on the star player, writing that Deon Hotto is “the greatest there is, the greatest there was, and the greatest there will be.”

Professor Munene wrote: “Deon Hotto, That’s the tweet.”

Fans also praised Bethuel Muzeu, who created Hotto’s goal with a delightful cross from the left flank.

One fan wrote that Muzeu’s assist to Hotto is still living rent free in his head.

Other fans compared Muzeu to Manchester City’s assist king Kevin De Bruyne.
