  • Martin Odegaard mistook Liverpool supporters for Arsenal fans during their FA Cup match
  • The skipper was trying to get the home support to rally behind the team in the blockbuster game
  • Mikel Arteta's Arsenal were eliminated by Jurgen Klopp's side courtesy of two late goals

Martin Odegaard suffered a humiliating moment during Arsenal's FA Cup match against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on January 7.

The Gunners were made to pay for failing to take their chances as Liverpool scored two late goals to proceed to the fourth round.

An own goal from Jakub Kiwior and a late Luis Diaz strike did the business for the visitors despite missing some of their top players.

Arsenal were undoubtedly on the front foot in the first half but couldn't find a way past Alisson Becker with Ibrahima Konate, particularly in inspired form.

At one point in the game, Arsenal skipper Odegaard was seen trying to rile up the crowd to increase their noise decibels and get behind the team.

Odegaard gestures to the wrong crowd

Only that, as Sport Bible reports, the Norwegian was addressing Liverpool fans who were behind the goal and not his fans.

Fans online reacted to the hilarious gesture from the attacking midfielder.

@LFCRami_ said:

"Hit the crossbar on purpose as well! Lowkey wants our quadruple charge to continue."

@Kumar Reaturaj said:

"He is destined to play for Liverpool in future. I hope he comes when his contract ends at Arsenal."

@Gerald_yea said:

"He’s a Liverpool fan at heart; he knew what he was doing."

What next for Arsenal?

Odegaard and the rest of Mikel Arteta's squad will be hoping to stop the rot of three successive defeats when they play Crystal Palace on January 20.

Arteta has watched his side drop from first to fourth place and exit both domestic cups. They, however, made it to the Champions League round of 16, where they have a date against Porto next month.

Nunez, Konate moment with pitch invader

Sports Brief also reported how a Liverpool fan regretted his decision to jump onto the Emirates pitch to celebrate with the players after Kiwior's own goal.

Darwin Nunez and Ibrahima Konate were spotted smacking the fan before the latter took his beanie hat and threw it back at the crowd.
