  • One of their targets was said to have been Barcelona's Ronald Araujo
  • The Uruguayan has become a key player for Barca under coach Xavi

Manchester United were busy in the summer transfer window and were one of the highest-spending clubs in the 2023 summer.

They even tried to sign one Barcelona defender and offered him more money, but he rejected a transfer to the club.

The defender in question was Ronald Araujo, who remains one of the Catalan giants' most important players. He was reportedly offered double the salary he was earning but said no.

The 24-year-old signed a new deal with the club in April 2022 until 2026. He's been with Barcelona since 2018 and has developed into one of the most promising centre-backs in La Liga.

The Uruguayan has made 13 appearances so far this season under manager, Xavi Hernandez but his game time has been plagued by injuries, per Transfermarkt.

According to Sport, via Football Espana, Araujo signed the new deal with information that he could've made more money at Old Trafford.

He definitely would've been a regular in England, but at Barcelona, he had a chance to become one of the first names on the team sheets in years to come.

Torres has beef with Xavi?

Meanwhile, Barcelona star, Ferran Torres is reportedly on his way out of Barcelona because of a tense relationship with Xavi Hernandez.

He has delivered when called upon, but the imminent arrival of Vitor Roque suggests even less playing time for the struggling 23-year-old.

Torres, who has largely been an understudy to Robert Lewandowski, has found it challenging to secure playing time despite improved form.

As Sports Brief previously reported, his relationship with Xavi, which is reportedly not the best, is said to have led to reduced playing time.

How Barcelona plan to sign Felix

Sports Brief also previously reported on Barcelona said to be considering making the decision to sign Joao Felix on a permanent deal.

The 23-year-old forward was the protagonist of the clash against league rival, Atletico Madrid and the Catalans would want him to stay.
