  • Xavi has not hesitated to sanction the exit of a few players he deems as surplus to requirement
  • The Barcelona gaffer, in recent times, has authorised the transfer of players, including Ansu Fati
  • A Barcelona forward could fancy exiting the club following a fallout with the manager

Since assuming control of La Liga club Barcelona, Xavi Hernandez has been decisive in offloading players he deems surplus or incompatible with his plans.

Notably, players like Ansu Fati, Abde Ezzalzouli, Clement Lenglet, and, more recently, Eric Garcia have been shown the exit at the Catalan club.

Nonetheless, a few players have displayed defiance and sought to change Xavi's opinion in the hope of earning his trust.

One such player is forward Ferran Torres, who was signed from Manchester City in January 2022.

According to a report from Sport, having been deemed surplus to requirement, the Valencia Academy product was slated for a departure in the summer transfer window but opted to stay, aiming to win over the manager.

The Spanish international made significant efforts to gain Xavi's trust, contributing crucial goals for La Blaugrana, especially given the poor form of veteran striker Robert Lewandowski.

However, despite the forward's attempts, Barcelona's recent announcement of the signing of forward Vitor Roque suggests even less playing time for the struggling Torres.

Roque’s signing to affect Torres

The 23-year-old, who has largely been an understudy to Lewandowski, has found it challenging to secure enough playing time despite his improved form.

Whenever he has been utilised, it is mostly on the left wing, which is believed to be his weakest position in attack.

Reports from Diario AS indicate that Torres' representatives perceive a strained relationship with Xavi and his coaching staff, believing that the forward lacks their full support, which has translated to his limited playing time.

With the impending arrival of Roque in January, Torres is anticipated to slide further down the pecking order at Barcelona, and a departure in the short or term is now a plausible scenario for the struggling forward.

How Barcelona plan to sign Felix

Sports Brief in a previous report stated La Liga giant Barcelona have made the decision to sign Joao Felix on a permanent deal.

The 23-year-old forward was the protagonist of the clash against league rival Atletico Madrid.

Barcelona would fancy a transfer in the region of ₤40 million for the Portuguese sensation.
