- Fans and pundits took issue with Rashford’s lack of effort in Saturday’s loss
Marcus Rashford has been a disappointment for Manchester United this season.
The England international’s standing with the club’s supporters hit rock bottom on Saturday after United’s loss to Newcastle.
They blasted Rashford for his lack of effort in that contest, a sentiment that Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane shared.
The Manchester United legend didn’t mince words when talking about the struggling forward, saying:
"Marcus Rashford is a local lad, he got a mega contract, and that's great. I need a bit more, you run forwards, but you have to run backwards. We have to cover ground.”
Keane wants Rashford to lead by example
Keane added that Rashford is 26 years old now and no longer a child.
The former United captain urged the Englishman to show his leadership qualities and be a good example to the younger United players, saying:
“He must lead by example. He's one of the most experienced players in this locker room, and if he doesn't lead by example, it's not good."
Rashford’s disappointing numbers for United
Rashford signed a lucrative contract extension last summer worth £325,000 a week until 2028, per the BBC.
Unfortunately for United, he hasn’t lived up to that huge payday, with Rashford scoring just two goals in 13 Premier League matches he played this season.

Ten Hag breaks his silence on Martial spat
Altay Bayindir: Video of United’s second choice goalie shows he has key ‘De Gea’ attribute
FootballSports Brief recently reported on Erik ten Hag breaking his silence on his bust-up with forward Anthony Martial during their loss to Newcastle United.
The Manchester United manager could be seen exchanging words with the French star in the first half when the latter made a lackadaisical attempt to track down Fabian Schar's run.
Ten Hag downplayed the aggressive clash when he spoke about the incident, with the United boss suggesting he was looking to re-energise the team.
