Will it ever end?

The Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi debate is probably the longest-running football debate in history and every week, there's a fresh take from pundits and ex-footballers.

This time, it was Jamie Carragher who gave another take on the debate, and Ronaldo fans were outraged.

During the CBS Sports Champions League broadcast this week, the former Liverpool defender said the endless debate is not even close.

"Ronaldo is nowhere near the level of Messi. Ronaldo is one of the greatest goal-scorers of all time. Messi is the greatest player of all time. It's not even close," Carragher said via ESPN.

Many football fans considered the debate over when Messi led Argentina to the 2022 FIFA World Cup title, but Ronaldo fans are certain the Al-Nassr superstar is the GOAT.

Even the Argentine icon's eighth Ballon d'Or win didn't change a thing for fans of the Portuguese star.

The two legendary stars have each scored hundreds of goals, won plenty of trophies and broken countless records, and most lists have them in the top two greatest footballers ever.

Ronaldo lauds Messi

Sports Brief also reported that Ronaldo hailed Messi and Zinedine Zidane in a controversial interview with Piers Morgan as two of the greatest he had ever witnessed.

The bombshell sit-down, which contributed to the Portuguese veteran’s bitter split from Manchester United last year, also included a number of fascinating observations.

The pair - widely considered the greatest footballers - had shared the stage for the better part of the last decade, competing for many awards and setting new records.

Messi refuses to answer GOAT question

Sports Brief also reported on the Argentine's diplomatic answer when asked whether he believed he was the best player in football history.

36-year-old Lionel Messi made some notable remarks after his Ballon d'Or win but strategically avoided the debate involving Cristiano Ronaldo.

The legendary pair have been pitted against each other for over a decade, with the Portuguese phenom winning the Ballon d’Or award five times.
