  • Zinedine Zidane believes Cristiano Ronaldo is better than him and his rival, Lionel Messi
  • Messi has won the 2022 World Cup while Ronaldo is the world's highest-paid sports star
  • Zidane coached Real Madrid and worked with Ronaldo for a time, and witnessed his talent

Zinedine Zidane is one of football's all-time greats, but he knows a player who is better than him.

The former French legend once weighed in on the 'greatest of all time' debate, and his comments have resurfaced once again.

The former French international was previously asked to pick between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, and he explained why he thought the Portuguese star was better than the Argentinian, Goal reported.

"Cristiano is the best. Messi is his rival and it's the rivalry everyone wants to see. But Ronaldo is phenomenal. There are no words to describe him. He is much better than me, even though I had a great career. He's the greatest of all time," he said at the time.

Zidane and Ronaldo's relationship

The Frenchman knows the new Al-Nassr signing quite well, having coached him at Real Madrid. Zidane spent four years at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium and got to work with Ronaldo during that period.

The veteran striker played 114 matches and scored 112 goals during his time under Zidane, SportsKeeda noted.

Could Zidane's opinion change?

The Frenchman made the statement in the past, before Messi's World Cup win, and some feel his opinion might have changed since.

The Argentinian solidified his legacy by lifting the trophy with Argentina, while Ronaldo because the highest-paid earner in the sporting world with his move to Saudi Arabia.

Ancelotti rejects Messi GOAT claim

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has refused to acknowledge Messi as the best player of all time, Sports Brief reported.

The Argentine captain is thought to have put the GOAT debate to rest after he led his country to World Cup glory on December 18 in Qatar.

However, the Los Blancos chief mentioned three other players he thinks are better than the 35-year-old forward.

Footballer declares GOAT debate over

Argentina captain Messi has finally won the trophy that has eluded him for his entire football career - the FIFA World Cup.

Argentina defeated France 4-2 on penalties after a completely ludicrous 120 minutes of football, Sports Brief earlier reported.

An appalling first-half display by Les Bleus saw them go a goal down when Ousmane Dembele conceded a penalty, after he tripped Angel Di Maria inside the box.
