President of Comoros, Azali Assoumani has sent a congratulatory message to the national team after their victory against Ghana in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Myziane Maolida scored the only goal as Les Coelacanthes defeated the Black Stars in Moroni to go top of the table in Group I of the African qualifiers.

This is the second time the island nation has beaten Ghana, with the first time being the Africa Cup of Nations in 2021.

"Congratulations to the [Coelacanthes], brilliant and victorious against the Black Stars of Ghana. Two matches for two victories to take the lead in Group I in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. You are the pride of the Comorian people," Assoumani wrote on social media.

The four-time African champions returned to Ghana in the early hours of Wednesday morning, with the Europe-based players expected to join their various clubs later in the day, as reported by Ghana Soccernet.

The World Cup qualifiers resume in June next year, with the Black Stars facing Mali and the Central African Republic while Comoros engage Madagascar and Chad in a bid to reach the FIFA World Cup in 2026.

Comoros beat Ghana in Moroni

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Comoros beating Ghana a second time after a 1-0 victory in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Moroni on Tuesday.

Myziane Maolida's first-half strike was enough as the African island nation recorded an important victory against the four-time African champions.

The Black Stars started the game well, with Inaki Williams finding Antoine Semenyo. However, the Bournemouth forward missed the chance.

Comoros celebrate Ghana win in style

Sports Brief also reported on players of Comoros staying late to celebrate their victory over Ghana in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday.

While the players of the Comoros national team celebrated wildly in their dressing room, fans took to the streets of Moroni to enjoy their victory.
