Bayern Munich have confirmed the signing of Australian 17-year-old youngster Nestory Irankunda.

The wonderkid was signed for a record £2.85 from Adelaide United and inked a long-term deal. He will join Bayern on July 1 2024, since FIFA rules prevent him from moving to Europe until he turns 18.

The teenager will remain with the Adelaide side for the rest of the 2023/24 season. His meteoric rise caught the attention of several top clubs from Europe.

The fee Bayern paid for the winger is almost double what Celtic paid for Melbourne City's Marco Tilio in June this year.

“I’m happy to have this all finalised and to be heading to one of the best clubs in the world — it’s a real dream come true,” said Irankunda via Adelaide United.
“I’ve worked hard to try and make my family proud.
“It’s going to be great to be able to see out the season with Adelaide United and try and have some success.

Who is Irankunda?

Irankunda's journey has been long, and it started in East Africa. His parents fled civil war in Burundi and moved to Tanzania, where the footballer was born.

He burst onto the in early 2022, and it has experienced a rapid rise in the football ranks. He broke many records in Australia, and the big boys in Europe started to take note.

For instance, he became the 6th youngest debutant in A-League history. He played his first match for Adelaide United at just 15 years, per Bundesliga.

He then became A-League's second youngest scorer in the league's history. He made his full professional debut in August. His impressive performances earned him a call-up to the Socceroos. The youngster also impressed with the junior Australian side.

He is known for his electric pace, dribbling finesse, and incredible ball-striking abilities. He has been compared to Bayern defender Alphonso Davies.

Kane sets Bundesliga record

He made history by becoming the first player in the 61-year history of the Bundesliga to score 17 goals in his first 11 league matches.
