  • Asamoah Gyan has opened up on his divorce case
  • The former Ghana captain is happy with the court verdict
  • Gyan lost two of his houses, one business, and two cars in the case

Former Ghana captain, Asamoah Gyan has explained why he decided to annul his marriage after the case between him and his ex-wife was made public following a court verdict.

The 37-year-old has been ordered by an Accra court to pay his wife an amount of GHC25,000, and hand over a house in the UK and in Accra, as well as a gas station business and two cars.

Gyan and his ex-wife, Gifty Gyan, have been involved in a legal battle for the past five years after the ex-footballer discovered his wife was already married to another man.

"The reason why I went to court is I annulled the marriage because I realize things weren't right. The court granted me my wish because they discovered that I was right," he told Asempa FM.

The couple had three children together and Gyan is expended to provide for the upkeep of the kids.

"I am very very happy with my life. I have three children that I am taking care of. I am a family man and my kids love me and I love them. I was frustrated by the court proceedings and after five years it's finally over," he said when asked if he will marry again.

The former Sunderland and Stade Rennais star is Ghana's all-time leading scorer with 51 goals from 109 appearances, per Transfermarkt.

Gyan loses properties in divorce saga

In a previous report, Sports Brief stated that Gyan was ordered by a court to pay his ex-wife a monthly stipend of GHC25,000 after their divorce case was finalised.

The former Black Stars captain is also required to hand over his houses in the United Kingdon and Accra to his ex-partner, while he also has to allow her to take over their gas station business.

According to the court, the GHC25,000 is for the upkeep of their three children.
