  • Manchester United came from behind to beat Brentford at Old Trafford
  • Scott McTominay scored twice in additional minutes to win it for United
  • Harry Maguire played 90 minutes and assisted the match-winning goal

Harry Maguire is pumped after helping Manchester United to a comeback victory over Brentford in front of the United faithful at Old Trafford.

Maguire got the opportunity of a rare start after injuries rocked United's defence, with Raphael Varane ruled out due to a minor issue after a long-term injury to Lisandro Martinez.

The embattled defender hardly put any foot wrong in defence. Per ESPN, he completed 90% of his passes, won 100% of his aerial duel and made two interceptions.

He popped up with a match-winning assist for Scott McTominay after he flicked Bruno Fernandes' freekick onto the Scottish midfielder, who headed home in the additional minute.

Maguire applauds Old Trafford fans

Many fans were opposed to the idea of Maguire getting a start. The choice of Jonny Evans as his partner in defence struck fear into the fans. The last time both players were together on the pitch, United conceded two late goals and lost 3-1 to Arsenal.

The 30-year-old was solid and shut his critics with his performance. After the game, he took to his Twitter page to applaud the home fans for their support.

"Old Trafford, you made that happen. Great fight and spirit shown by the lads. @mctominay10 unreal mate," he wrote.

The win helped United avoid losing three consecutive home games, having lost to Crystal Palace and Galatasaray at home in the league and Champions League.

The former Leicester City defender will now join the England national team for the October international break, where the Three Lions will play Australia and Italy. His call-up to the national team was questioned due to his lack of minutes at the club.

Maguire reacts to losing captaincy

Sports Brief reported that Maguire expressed his disappointment after he lost the armband, as contained in a statement on his social media before the club confirmed officially.

The England defender claimed the decision was reached after a conversation with the manager. However, he promised to help the club on and off the pitch regardless of the situation.
