Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Enoch Teye Mensah has sadly passed on at the age of 77.

The veteran politician and former Member of Parliament for the Ningo-Pampram Constituency reportedly died on Sunday evening at a hospital in South Africa, where he was receiving treatment for his illness.

Honourable E.T. Mensah was the longest-serving sports minister in Ghana, assuming the role during the presidency of the late Jerry John Rawlings.

Before his passing, he was a member of the Council of State, as reported by myjoyonline.com.

Apart from working as a Sports Minister, he also served as the Minister of Education and subsequently Minister of Employment and Social Welfare.

He spent 20 years in the Parliament of Ghana before he was replaced by current MP, Honourable Sam Nartey George.

Ghana reveal ambitions of hosting 2038 World Cup

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghana are considering hosting the 2038 FIFA World Cup and could become the second African country to stage the competition.

However, the North African nation Morocco are also reportedly putting in a bid for the 2030 tournament. They will also be facing competition from Saudi Arabia.

According to Ghana's Director of National Development Planning Commission, Dr Nii Moi Thompson, the country has earmarked the hosting of the global event in 15 years' time in line with the nation's developmental plan.
