Ghana are considering the hosting the 2038 FIFA World Cup and could become the second African country to stage the competition.

However, North African nation Morocco are also reportedly putting in a bid for the 2030 tournament. They will also be facing competition from Saudi Arabia.

"It presents my government and subsequent governments with a daunting task, not so much the implementation, but to stay on track and ensure we have the desired outcome. We must be able to monitor our progress, and redirect our paths when we seem to be deviating from them," he told Good Evening Ghana, as quoted by Graphic Online.

Dr Thompson also revealed that the West African nation could consider the hosting of the Olympic Games as well.

The plans for the two events have been drafted and presented to government with the hopes of putting in a bid for the major sporting activities.

The four-time African champions last hosted a major event in 2008, as reported by Citi Sports.

The Black Stars have been at four FIFA World Cups, going beyond the group stage at the 2006 and 2010 tournaments in Germany and South Africa.

However, at their last two appearances, they finished bottom of their groups in 2014 and recently in Qatar in 2022.
