Napoli may have 'joked' themselves into legal trouble over a viral TikTok video mocking Victor Osimhen after the player's agent released a statement about the controversial content.

The Nigerian striker missed a decisive spot kick that could have handed his team all three points against Bologna, much to the dismay of fans who had placed bets on the team to win.

Napoli then released a video making a mockery of Osimhen via their official TikTok account, sparking widespread outrage from his compatriots in particular.

The video clip showed Osimhen gesturing for a penalty after a handball by the opposition, accompanied by a high-pitched voiceover, then another clip of the striker blazing his effort wide.

Nigerians in particular had demanded the TikTik post be taken down, with some even alleging the incident was racially motivated.

Osimhen's agent hits back at Napoli

The video has since been taken down but not before attracting multiple reactions on X (formerly Twitter).

In addition, Osimhen's agent, Roberto Calenda has issued a statement on social media condemning the actions of Napoli as well as threatening to take legal action.

"What happened today on Napoli's official profile on the TikTok platform is not acceptable. A video mocking Victor was first made public and then, but now belatedly, deleted," the statement read.

Calenda added, per the BBC:

"A serious fact that causes very serious damage to the player and adds to the treatment that the boy is suffering in the last period between media trials and fake news. We reserve the right to take legal action and any useful initiative to protect Victor."

The former Lille striker enjoyed a successful season last year, helping Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years.

According to Dimarzio, he had multiple offers from top European clubs last term but opted to stay with the Neapolitans and is close to extending his contract.

Osimhen clashes with Napoli fans

Sports Brief also reported on Osimhen clashing with Napoli fans weeks ago after they blocked his car from leaving the training complex, leaving him frustrated.

These fans mobbed him while he was driving out, requesting pictures and autographs but the player was having none of it, leading to a heated confrontation.
