Conversations surrounding who will succeed Florentino Perez as president of Spanish club Real Madrid continue to resurface, with reports suggesting that the 76-year-old will not fancy the chance of extending his current tenure at the helm of affairs at the Spanish capital.
Media outlets in Spain have stated that the remodelling of the new Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, which is almost completed, could be the final major project the Real Madrid president carries out.
Recent reports, which the Spanish powerhouse emphatically denied with an official release, stated that Perez could fancy ending his 14-year spell at Madrid.
Nonetheless, amid the speculation, tennis star Rafael Nadal has made clear his ambition to become president of Los Blancos someday.
Nadal on becoming Real Madrid president
The 37-year-old sat in an interview with Spanish TV channel Movistar, and was quizzed about his chances of becoming president of the Spanish powerhouse. As quoted by Relevo, he said:
"It's not something that's on my mind right now, I promise you that. Would I like to be? Yes, I think so.
"Now at this point, it's not something I'm thinking about for a number of reasons. We have the best president possible, then you never know in life what you might think now and what you might think tomorrow."
The 14-time Roland Garros champion also admitted to his need for preparation, stressing his current incapability for the role.
"I am quite realistic with myself, I know my limitations, and I'm not sure if I would be capable. Time will tell."
