  • The Spaniard was a free agent after leaving Paris Saint-Germain
  • He reportedly turned down offers from Saudi Arabia and Turkey

Sergio Ramos was formally introduced as a Sevilla player this week, following his agreement to return to his boyhood club in Spain.

The 37-year-old left Paris Saint-Germain when his contract concluded at the end of June and there was strong speculation about a potential move to Saudi Arabia earlier in the summer.

There was also rumoured to be keen interest from Major League Soccer (MLS) in America.

However, Ramos has now finalised his return to Sevilla, marking a homecoming 18 years after his departure from the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium to join Real Madrid.

The defender was introduced to the passionate home crowd, with 23,000 fans filling the arena to welcome the Spanish veteran back home.

During the presentation, Ramos was visibly moved and became emotional, shedding tears of joy, per Football Espana.

Ramos became emotional when talking about his return to Estadio Ramon and confessed to having regrets about his departure from the club.

The former Spain captain also expressed remorse for his celebration in front of the Sevilla supporters in 2018 when he scored against them.

He told Sevilla TV, via Sportmole:

"Today is a very special day. I'm finally coming home, I'm looking forward to feeling the Sevilla shirt again and pulling on this badge. Eighteen years have passed since I left."

Ramos admitted he had made mistakes and took the opportunity to apologise for those, and to any Sevilla player who he might have offended by his actions or gestures in the past.

"We are all in the same boat, we are all from the same family and we have too many people outside to fight amongst ourselves," he added.

While this return signifies a homecoming for Ramos, his eagerness to contribute to Sevilla's success this season is palpable.

The defender clearly understands the significant task at hand for the Andalusian team and has no intention of resting on his laurels.

Sergio Ramos snubs Al-Ittihad transfer

In a previous report, Sports Brief stated that Ramos snubbed Saudi club Al-Ittihad after the defender opted for a return to his boyhood club, Sevilla.

The 37-year-old was without a club since his contract with PSG ended in July and appeared keen on a major move to the Saudi Pro League giants.

However, a surprise twist of a Sevilla transfer popped into the frame, with the Real Madrid legend also turning down offers from Galatasaray and Besiktas.
