Black Stars Hold First Training in Accra Ahead of Crucial AFCON Qualifier Against CAR

The Black Stars of Ghana held their first training on Monday in Accra ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Central African Republic.

Twelve players reported for training with the rest of the team expected to arrive on Tuesday before the squad leaves for Kumasi to continue preparations for the important game.

Captain Andre Ayew and West Ham United midfielder Mohammed Kudus were all involved in the first day of practice under the supervision of coach Chris Hughton.

Other players who took part in the exercise were Celta Vigo's Joseph Aidoo, Baba Iddrisu of Almeria, Antoine Semenyo - who is making a return after fully recovering from injury - and goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi, as sighted on social media.

The Black Stars will hold an early morning training session before the team travels to Kumasi - the venue for the match.

Ghana needs at least a point to qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Meanwhile, the team will be without Thomas Partey and Daniel Amartey after both players sustained injuries with their clubs Arsenal and Besiktas respectively.

The Black Stars will host the Central African Republic on Thursday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, as reported by ESPN.

Black Stars players report to camp

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that the players of Ghana's national team, the Black Stars, have started arriving in Accra ahead of their crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Central African Republic.

The four-time African champions risk missing the tournament in Ivory Coast despite sitting top of Group E heading into the final round of games.

The Black Stars need at least a point to secure qualification, with Chris Hughton naming a strong squad for the game in Kumasi on September 7, 2023.

Jordan Ayew wins Player of the Month

Ghanaian forward Jordan Ayew has been voted the Player of the Month for August at Crystal Palace.

The 31-year-old beat competition from Joachim Andersen, Eberechi Eze and Jefferson Lerma to win the award for the first month of the season.

Ayew enjoyed a decent start to the campaign, providing the assists in the games against Sheffield United and Brentford.
