The players of Ghana's national team, the Black Stars, have started arriving in Accra ahead of their crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Central African Republic.

The four-time African champions risk missing the tournament in Ivory Coast despite sitting top of Group E heading into the final round of games.

The Black Stars need at least a point to secure qualification, with Chris Hughton naming a strong squad for the game in Kumasi on September 7, 2023.

In photos shared on social media, eleven players, including captain Andre Ayew and newly-signed West Ham United midfielder Mohammed Kudus, have reported to the Swiss Spirits Alisa Hotel in Accra for camping.

The team will hold its first training in Accra on Monday before leaving for Kumasi on Tuesday to continue preparations.

Ghana will be without Arsenal star Thomas Partey, who picked up an injury in training last week, ruling him out of the game against the Central African Republic.

Meanwhile, Baba Rahman, Baba Iddrisu, and Elisha Owusu return to the squad after a long absence from the team, as reported by ghanafa.org.

Hughton names squad to face CAR

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Partey has been excluded from the Ghana squad to face the Central African Republic in the final 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier next week.

Partey has reportedly picked up an injury and will be out for a while, leaving Chris Hughton with no option but to name his team without his deputy captain.

His absence will be a huge blow for the Black Stars, who need at least a draw to qualify for the tournament in Ivory Coast next year.

Ghana, Liberia in international friendly

The Black Stars will face Liberia in an international friendly days after their final AFCON 2023 qualifier against the Central African Republic.

The four-time African champions have arranged the friendly with their West African rivals as part of preparations ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana need at least a draw against the Central African Republic to seal their spot at the tournament in Ivory Coast next year.
