Novak Djokovic is in awe of Lionel Messi after the two met in Miami and had a 15-minute chat, the details of which the tennis star has now revealed.

Messi has been lighting it up for Inter Miami since he moved to Major League Soccer, after bringing an end to his two-year spell at Paris Saint-Germain.

He has helped the statistically worst team in the league to become the winners of the inaugural Leagues Cup, beating Nashville SC on penalties in the final.

According to Miami Herald, the team failed to win for the first time since his arrival last night after a goalless draw at home to Nashville in his second MLS game, denting a massive blow to their already slim playoff chances.

Djokovic reveals conversation with Messi

The Serbian is in Miami for the US Open 2023, having missed last year's edition after he was denied entry into the country due to his vaccination status.

He met the football superstar, and ahead of his opening game, he was quizzed by ESPN Mexico and translated to English by AlbicelesteTalk:

“It’s the second time we met with each other. We talked for 15 minutes about everything, I would like to meet him and talk about everything again. Messi is a phenomenon. He's a huge champion, I have a huge respect for him,” he said.

As reported by The Telegraph, Djokovic, who had previously been quoted as saying Messi is his biggest idol, eased into the US Open 3rd round after beating Bernabe Zapata Miralles in three straight sets - 6-4, 6-1, 6-1.

Nadal stylishly settles GOAT debate

Sports Brief previously reported that Rafael Nadal stylishly settled the GOAT debate, mixing honesty with some bit of diplomacy due to his association.

The tennis star picked Messi as the best but added that he should probably not have said anything because he is a Real Madrid fan, the club Ronaldo played at for nine years.
