FootballRonaldo’s MLS, Saudi Pro League Comparison Resurfaces After Messi Scores for Inter Miami Yet Again
- Lionel Messi was on the scoresheet once again in the Leagues Cup semi-final
- The 36-year-old has now scored nine goals in six appearances for Inter Miami
- Cristiano Ronaldo previously aimed a dig at the MLS versus the Saudi Pro League
Lionel Messi made light work of Major League Soccer again with another masterclass and a goal on August 16.
At this point, it is quite feasible to bet on the Argentine to bag a goal in every club game he plays for Inter Miami, as he currently has nine goals in just six appearances for the club co-owned by David Beckham.
Messi's latest strike was a stunner - or a fluke, depending on where you stand in the unending debate on who is the greatest player of all time between the 36-year-old and Cristiano Ronaldo.
From 30 yards out, Messi beautifully struck a low shot which somehow beat the helpless Philadelphia goalie for his team’s second goal, as reported on GOAL.
A critic could easily argue that Messi had too much space, while others could put up a strong case that the goalkeeper could have done so much better.
Ronaldo’s take on the MLS
Is the MLS easier than the Saudi Arabia top flight? That is certainly a subject of debate, but with the type of goals Messi is scoring in America, Cristiano Ronaldo’s comments in July appear to have some substance.
As quoted by The Mirror, the Portuguese veteran said:
“The Saudi [Pro] League is better than MLS, now all the players are coming here. In one year, more top players will come to Saudi Arabia. I opened the way to the Saudi league, and now all the players are coming here.”
The fact that Messi has made light work of the league could be due to his brilliance, but it could also be down to an overall lack of quality.

FootballThe Saudi Pro League, meanwhile, has attracted some of the same criticism despite luring big names from world football, with the latest addition being former Paris Saint-Germain star, Neymar Junior.
Neymar on why he quit PSG
Sports Brief also reported on Neymar revealing why he ditched PSG for the Saudi Pro League after completing a groundbreaking transfer to Al-Hilal on August 15.
Despite the big money incentives associated with his move, the Brazilian claimed his decision to move was propelled by his aspiration to be a 'global player'.
Under the terms of his new agreement, Neymar has secured a two-year contract that is anticipated to yield an annual income of approximately $100 million.
