Bongokuhle Hlongwane can’t stop scoring for Minnesota United.

The South African striker notched his seventh goal in this year’s Leagues Cup, scoring in the 32nd minute of their match against Toluca on Tuesday.

He is now tied with Lionel Messi atop the tournament’s scoring charts.

Hlongwane showed great composure with his goal against Toluca.

He faked a shot attempt as he was released down the right side of the penalty box, causing the Toluca goalkeeper to commit and drop to the ground.

Hlongwane then shifted the ball to his left foot before uncorking a thunderous attempt into the back of the net to give Minnesota United a 2-0 lead.

Bongi is on fire

He opened his account in the Leagues Cup during Minnesota’s 4-0 win over Puebla, scoring twice in their group opener.

He scored another brace in their next outing, netting twice in Minnesota’s 3-2 loss to Chicago to stretch his goal tally to four.

Hlongwane registered another double in Minnesota’s win over Columbus, scoring in the 17th and 54th minutes against the Crew, per Star Tribune.

He entered the tournament’s knockout stage as the leading scorer, netting six goals in three group matches.

Messi surges ahead with brace

Messi leapfrogged him in the standings after the Argentine star scored a brace in Inter Miami’s thrilling shootout win over FC Dallas on Sunday.

His seventh goal of the tournament came in stunning fashion, curling in a free kick from 25 yards out in the 85th minute to send the match into a penalty shootout.

The Herons went on to win 5-3 on penalties to advance to the quarterfinals, where they will face Charlotte FC.

Guard reacts to Messi's goal

Sports Brief recently reported on a security guard's reaction to Messi's free kick against FC Dallas.

He was caught on video placing his hands on his head after the Argentine star scored the equalizer.
