  • Reece James is calm after captaining Chelsea to their first trophy under Mauricio Pochettino
  • The Blues won the Premier League Summer Series after beating London neighbours Fulham
  • Thiago Silva and James shared the armband in each half with the captaincy not yet decided

Chelsea Academy product, Reece James, has taken to his social media to send a message to the fans after winning his first trophy as the team's 'captain'.

The Blues beat London neighbours, Fulham, 2-0 to finish top of a group of six and win the inaugural Premier League Summer Series after two wins and a draw in the United States.

Thiago Silva opened the scoring with a bullet header from Ben Chilwell's corner before Christopher Nkunku doubled the lead from a tap-in after brilliant work from Carney Chukwuemeka.

Did James confirm Chelsea's captaincy?

The club are without a captain after the departure of Cesar Azpilicueta to Atletico Madrid and have had multiple players taking the armband during the pre-season, including Trevoh Chalobah, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Chilwell.

Veteran Brazilian defender, Silva, and academy star, James, are tipped to be in contention as the next skipper, even though Pochettino claimed it would only be known in their opening game against Liverpool.

James appeared to confirm he is the choice after releasing a short video on TikTok detailing his journey from academy days at Cobham to winning trophies with the club.

He captioned it, 'We only getting started', leaving fans convinced he is the choice to lead the Blues.

James' first message as captain

Poch has been theatrical in his approach - Silva and James have not been on the pitch at the same time during pre-season to not give anything away to fans.

The 38-year-old wore the armband in the first half against Fulham, while the England international wore it in the second half, but both lifted the trophy together.

James later shared photos on Instagram of himself staring at the trophy with the armband on and another of himself signing shirt for the fans, with the caption: 'I’m just tryna ball and live'.

Chelsea's pride in Reece James

Sports Brief also reported that Chelsea took pride in Reece James after the defender responded with a 'no' to a fan suggesting a move to Arsenal for him.

The club’s Twitter branded him 'one of our own', aiming a dig at both the Gunners and Mason Mount, an academy star who joined Manchester United.
