  • Chelsea boss, Mauricio Pochettino has made a public plea for reinforcement in his squad
  • This comes after the club sold 11 first-team stars and added a lesser number to the team
  • The team is currently in the United States for pre-season with a team filled with youngsters

Chelsea boss, Mauricio Pochettino is asking for the club's hierarchy to reinforce the team. Chelsea will need to move fast to step up their preparation ahead of next season.

The team is in the US for a pre-season tour and turned up with a team filled with youngsters, most of whom won't be in the first team next season due to loan moves.

“I want the right profiles, the right players, to arrive and improve the squad. Of course, as soon as possible is better than later. Today is better than tomorrow,” said Pochettino, via Sun Sport.

Sports Brief looks at four positions begging for urgent attention after Pochettino's comments, including defensive midfield.

1. Midfield

This is a position in which the club is in dire need of quantity and quality. Enzo Fernandez and Conor Gallagher are the two current senior midfielders, and the Englishman could still leave. Andrey Santos, Cesare Casadei, and Carney Chukwuemeka made up the remaining contingent to the United States.

Even with the impending addition of Moises Caicedo, the team needs at least two senior midfielders after the departures of Jorginho, N'Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, and Ruben Lotus-Cheek in the last seven months.

2. Centre-back

The unfortunate injury to Wesley Fofana has thrown Chelsea's transfer plans into confusion. The defender tore his ACL and required surgery, ruling him out for months. It leaves veteran Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah, and Levi Colwill as the only fit centre-backs. Benoit Badiashile is expected to join in a few weeks, while Chalobah could still leave.

3. Number 9

This is another position in which the team is lacking. Armando Broja is just returning from a lengthy injury, leaving new recruit Nicolas Jackson as the only available forward. Christopher Nkunku could also slot in, but it is becoming necessary to recruit a recognised number 9, with Romelu Lukaku and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang set to leave.

4. Wingers

Raheem Sterling, Mykhailo Mudryk, and Noni Madueke are the only recognised wingers in the squad, and with Pochettino tending towards a 4-2-3-1, more numbers will be needed in that position.

Pochettino on Caicedo

Sports Brief reported that Pochettino refused to comment on Caicedo when quizzed about the Ecuadorian after Brighton rejected a second offer of £70m.

Marc Cucurella claimed that he thinks Caicedo would like to join and that the Blues would have a good midfielder for years if he signed.
