Ghana defender, Mohammed Salisu is set for medical at AS Monaco after agreeing to join the French giants from English side Southampton.

The 23-year-old will travel to France on Sunday ahead of a move reportedly worth £17m.

Salisu, who joined the Saints in the summer of 2020 from Spanish outfit Real Valladolid had a year left on his current deal, but decided to make a move to France following the club's demotion.

The move is seen as a big step for the Ghanaian centre-back as the French heavyweights eye the Ligue 1 title in the upcoming season.

According transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, Salisu will sign a deal in the coming days after his medical was booked for Sunday.

Salisu last played for Southampton in March in the game against Tottenham, which ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw. The left-sided centre-back missed the rest of the campaign due to injury.

However, he returned for early pre-season as he worked on his fitness after a lengthy spell on the sidelines, as reported by GHANASoccernet.

He will be signing a long-term deal with Southampton as he begins a new adventure in France.

Salisu exiled from Southampton squad

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that the future of Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu at Southampton has come under serious scrutiny after the centre-back was left out of the Saints last two games in the English Premier League.

The 23-year-old was earlier reported to have picked an injury following his return from international duty in March.

However, Salisu trained with the team before the games against West Ham United and Manchester City.

Salisu in Greece for holidays

Black Stars defender, Mohammed Salisu is enjoying the holidays with his girlfriend in Greece after the end of a long season in England.

Salisu missed most of the second half of the season after picking an injury as Southampton suffered Premier League demotion at the end of the campaign.

The towering centre-back last played for the Saints in a game against Tottenham Hotspur in March, and has not featured since for both club and country.
