Hlongwane first scored a brace against Puebla FC in the Leagues Cup before finding the back of the net twice against Chicago Fire, Goal reported.

Sadly for Hlongwane, his performance against Chicago wasn’t enough to give his side victory as The Loons lost the game 3-2. Despite the loss, the MLS side have still progressed to the Leagues Cup knockout phase.

The South African’s strikes did grab attention, as did his celebration afterwards. After netting a brace, the former Team of Choice attacker broke out Cristiano Ronaldo’s 'Siuuu' celebration.

With Lionel Messi recently joining Inter Miami and debuting a new celebration, the appearance of Ronaldo’s trademark move was somewhat ironic.

Hlongwane’s form in America

The brace against Chicago further added to what has been an impressive run of form for the South African striker.

As noted by Transfermarkt, he has scored 12 goals in 26 games in 2023. He has also notched up three assists.

Hlongwane nets again for Minnesota

Bongokuhle Hlongwane is making waves in the Major League Soccer.

The South African striker is scoring crucial goals for Minnesota United, as they look to climb up the Western Conference standings.

As noted by Sports Brief, the former Maritzburg United attacker is proving to be one of the American side’s best performers this season.

Bongokuhle Hlongwane is hot property

Sports Brief also previously reported how Bafana's Hlongwane was a hot commodity in transfer news.

Numerous local clubs were rumoured to be interested in the services of the Maritzburg United player.

The 21-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, or Kaizer Chiefs.
