Swedish football legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic has recalled the day he left former teammate Marco Materazzi hospitalised with a kung-fu kick.

Zlatan recently called time on his glittering football career aged 41, having announced his retirement from professional football at the end of the 2022/23 season.

The forward's retirement came after an illustrious football journey that saw him ply his trade with some of the best teams across Europe.

According to Sportbible, the Swede will no doubt go down into history books as an icon - and not just for his goalscoring prowess but also his antics both on and off the pitch.

Zlatan leaves ex-teammate hospitalised

AC Milan were among the top teams that Zlatan played for during his career, with the forward having three successful stints with the Italian giants.

However, his most memorable moment in an AC Milan shirt came back in 2010 during a Milan derby.

The ex-Man United star had returned to AC Milan after spending three years with rivals Inter Milan.

At the time, Zlatan was involved in an on-pitch incident with former teammate Materazzi that resulted in the legendary striker striking the Italian with a kung-fu kick, sending him to hospital.

The 41-year-old reflected on the incident back in 2019 and said:

"Materazzi entered a challenge like an assassin and hurt me. He was a tough football player, that's OK.
"But there's two ways to be tough, one of them is aiming to hurt you. Even [Paolo] Maldini was tough, but with a different objective.
"It was Juventus-Inter in 2006 and after the foul I had to leave the pitch for a moment and [coach Fabio] Capello said: 'I'll substitute you'. I said: 'no, I'll go on.'" Zlatan added
