  • Eden Hazard's unfruitful spell with Real Madrid has come to a premature end
  • Hazard, who joined Madrid from Chelsea in 2019, will leave the club at the end of this month
  • This season, the Belgian has played a paltry 392 minutes for Los Blancos across all competitions

Eden Hazard's disappointing spell with Real Madrid has come to an end following the club's decision to terminate his contract by mutual consent.

The Spanish giants, in an official communication, revealed the club have decided to part ways with the former Chelsea forward after a four-year stint which has largely been disappointing from the player's perspective.

Hazard reached the pinnacle of his career as one of the world's top wingers, which prompted Real Madrid to secure his services in 2019 on a five-year deal, which runs through to 2024.

The transfer fee of £142 million from Chelsea to Real Madrid at that time established a new British record. However, the Belgian failed to meet the expectations at the Bernabeu largely due to nagging injuries.

Across four seasons, Hazard made a paltry 76 appearances for Los Blancos, scoring just seven goals and providing 12 assists, per Transfermarkt.

Following the announcement of Madrid's decision to sever its ties with the 32-year-old, football fans trooped to social media to air their views.

Fans react to Hazard's exit

@F4STFATI labelled the Belgian as the biggest flop in football history:

"Hazard is 100% the biggest flop of all time. I can’t even name a single goal he’s scored for Madrid."

@WaruiJohn2 concurred with @F4STFATI's assertion but narrowed his argument to only Real Madrid:

"Eden Hazard is the biggest flop in the history of Real Madrid."

Another user @AnabellaMarvy, who supports Barcelona, claimed Hazard failed stint with Real outweighs that of Coutinho's no-show with the Catalan club:

"Eden Hazard is a bigger flop than Philippe Coutinho."

Ghanaian sportscaster and avid Chelsea fan @FancyDiMaria_ wrote:

"Eden Hazard is a true definition of not everyone is destined to thrive at his “dream club”. I’m really sad such a talented player couldn’t enjoy his football even at his peak."

@_FaridKhan summarized:

"All fairy tales don't have a happy ending."

Madrid terminates Hazard's contract

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Real Madrid have terminated Eden Hazard’s contract following a nightmare spell at the club.

Hazard was rated as one of the best wingers in the world at some point and was snapped up by Real Madrid in 2019 for a then-British transfer record of £142m from Chelsea.

Despite having a five-year initial contract with Los Blancos that runs through 2024, the former Chelsea playmaker has struggled with injuries and poor form.
