  • The Gunners' loss meant they stood no chance mathematically to catch up with City, who are leading the log with 85 points

Mikel Arteta has sent Manchester City a classy message after they beat Arsenal to the Premier League title.

The Gunners seemed in a pole position to secure the crown this term after an incredible title run under Arteta, only for them to bottle it with a few matches to go.

The north Londoners had topped the league standings for the better part of the season and even enjoyed a significant point gap over City at some point.

However, their Saturday, May 20, 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground meant they stood no chance of winning the crown.

According to The Guardian, Taiwo Awoniyi scored Nottingham's only goal of the match to end Arsenal's slim title hopes.

Arteta sends Man City message

Arteta has now shown his class side by sending Man City his congratulations after they beat him to this season's Premier League title.

Speaking after Arsenal's defeat to Nottingham, the Spaniard admitted Arsenal's title loss was painful.

‘First of all, congratulations to City for winning the championship and obviously a really sad day for us after everything we’ve done in the season," Arteta told Sky Sports via Metro UK.

Meanwhile, Man City, who are topping the standings with 85 points, are scheduled to face Chelsea in their next Premier League match on Sunday.

While the fixture is now less significant for City, Pep Guardiola's charges will be keen to secure a positive result to have a crowning moment for their title triumph.

Arteta makes 'new signing'

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Mikel Arteta might not be winning the Premier League this season, but the strides he has made with Arsenal are commendable.

As the Times reports, he has now signed a dog to boost morale at training sessions. The dog, a chocolate Labrador, has been christened 'Win' and has been seen 'joining' the players at the London Colney training base.
