Mason Greenwood gave fans memories of La Liga legend Ronaldinho with a sublime skill against Athletic Bilbao on Friday, May 3.

The on-loan midfielder performed a flawless rainbow flick on the flank, leaving two Bilbao players chasing back.

In a video shared by Getafe on the club’s X account, the 22-year old received a pass from Luis Milla before expertly controlling it and flicking it past an opponent.

With two Bilbao chasing him, Greenwood then chopped in, but was eventually fouled by the same player who he embarrassed with the skill.

The sublime piece of skill was reminiscent of one former Barcelona star Ronaldinho did during his peak days, coincidentally against Athletic Bilbao.

Gaucho picked the ball on the touchline and somehow performed a triple rainbow flick on three Bilbao players, leaving fans awed.

How the game went

Despite a fairly decent game, Greenwood’s side suffered a 2-0 defeat thanks to Inaki Williams’ brace.

According to GOAL, Bilbao were dealt a blow in the second half as Yeray Alvarez and Aitor Paredes were sent off, leaving the visitors with nine men on the pitch.

Greenwood had the chance to half the deficit late in the game from the penalty spot, but his effort was expertly saved by Spain’s Number 1 Unai Simon.

Greenwood’s nomination

Meanwhile, Greenwood’s exemplary loan spell has been recognized as the forward was recently nominated for the La Liga team of the season, according to Express Sport.

After a torrid spell at United which included a six-month investigation over battery claims, Greenwood was ultimately shipped off on loan to the Spanish top flight, where he has reignited his career.

In 31 appearances for Getafe, he has scored 10 goals and registered six assists across all competitions.

Thanks to his nomination, Greenwood now joins elite names like Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior and Frenkie de Jong as contenders.

Can Greenwood return to United?

Sports Brief earlier reported on what must happen for Mason Greenwood to secure a return to Manchester United.

The Englishman had not played for the Red Devils since 2022 when he was arrested and later charged for allegedly abusing and assaulting his girlfriend at the time.

United are ready to cash in on the young forward, but if the right offer fails to come by, Greenwood could return to Old Trafford, according to reports.
