  • Getafe have accused Real Madrid of fielding an ineligible player in their La Liga fixture
  • Getafe have officially filed a complaint against Real Madrid
  • Real Madrid could face a points deduction and fine

La Liga club, Getafe, have lodged a complaint against Real Madrid, accusing them of fielding an ineligible player in their match round 34 clash on Saturday.

The incident occurred in the 84th minute when Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti attempted to substitute Marco Asensio for Alvaro Odriozola, but changed his mind at the last moment and replaced Eduardo Camavinga instead.

However, Getafe claim that Asensio had already left the field and Odriozola had entered, making it an illegal substitution.

According to the rules of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), a substitution is considered complete when the player who is being replaced leaves the field of play and the substitute enters it.

If a player who has been substituted re-enters the field without the referee’s permission, he is considered an ineligible player and his team may face sanctions.

Getafe were not intending to take legal action against Real Madrid as reported by Mundo Deportivo, but the club has since changed its mind and have filed a formal complaint to the RFEF according to Marca, asking them to annul Real Madrid’s 1-0 victory.

The RFEF will have to examine the evidence and hear both sides before making a decision.

Real Madrid are yet to respond to the allegations, but they may argue that Asensio did not completely exit the field and that the referee allowed the change of substitution.

Getafe are fighting for survival in the relegation zone. The outcome of the complaint could have a significant impact on their fortunes.

Real Madrid could face consequences

If the federation finds Getafe's claims to be true, Madrid will forfeit the match and hand a 3-0 win to the relegation-threatened side. They could also face a fine. The three points would be enough to drag 18th-placed Getafe up to 15th.

A three-point deduction could compound Madrid's embarrassment in La Liga. Los Blancos would fall behind city rivals Atletico Madrid, and trail old foes Barcelona by 17 points.

Madrid keen on boosting squad

As reported earlier by Sports Brief, Real Madrid are keen on boosting their squad and are expected to make three major signings this summer.

The Spanish giants have reportedly expressed interest in Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe, Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham, and marauding Bayern Munich full-back Alphonso Davies.

It remains to be seen how many of these marquee talents Los Blancos will be able to get over the line before the close of the summer window.
