  • PSG fans continue to register their displeasure with Lionel Messi
  • The former Barcelona talisman saw his two-week suspension cut short after he rendered an apology following his unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia
  • In his first game for the club, after the suspension was lifted, Messi played full throttle as PSG condemned Ajaccio to relegation

Lionel Messi made his return to first-team football on Saturday, May 13, against Ajaccio after his two-week suspension was lifted by Paris Saint-Germain.

Messi was punished by PSG on the back of his decision to travel to Saudi Arabia without permission, but after rendering an unqualified apology via social media, the Ligue 1 leaders tampered justice with mercy.

He was quickly integrated back into Christophe Galtier's plans and was predictably named in his starting lineup against the lowly-ranked side.

Unfortunately for the 35-year-old, who was named the Laureus Sportsman of the Year in Paris earlier this week, he was subjected to mixed reactions by fans.

Fans boo Messi

A section of PSG's fanbase were unforgiving with Messi, whistling at the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner, who lasted the entire duration of the game, BBC reports.

While he was booed, other sections of the Parc des Princes replied with chants of "Messi." Nonetheless, the mercurial Argentine playmaker had a relatively quiet game as his side romped to a 5-0 win, condemning Ajaccio to relegation in the process, per Sportstar.

PSG's first goal came via an unlikely source, Fabian Ruiz, who made no mistake with his finish after 22 minutes before Hakimi doubled the lead three minutes after the half-hour mark.

A second-half brace from Mbappe put the game beyond the reach of Ajaccio while Mohamed Youssouf compounded the visitors' miseries with an own goal as PSG inched closer to an 11th Ligue 1 title.

Messi speaks on GOAT debate

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Lionel Messi has revealed his position on the unending debate on who is the Greatest Footballer of All Time (GOAT) between himself and his age-old adversary Cristiano Ronaldo.

The extent of their domination over the last decade has made the "Greatest Of All Time" argument almost exclusively revolve around the rivalry between the mercurial Argentine playmaker and the Portuguese sensation.

After many expert opinions and fan discussions on the GOAT debate, the 35-year-old, who picked up his second Laureus Sportsman of the Year Award in Paris, finally weighed in on the debate.
