Ghana and Chelsea legend, Michael Essien has congratulated Nigeria striker, Victor Osimhen, after winning the Serie A title with Napoli.

The Super Eagles forward inspired Napoli to their first league title in 33 years after scoring 23 Serie A goals this season. Osimhen could add to his tally with four matches remaining.

In winning the league with Napoli, the 24-year-old also broke George Weah's long-standing Serie A record as the African player with the most goals in the Italian league, netting his 47th goal against Fiorentina last Sunday.

Osimhen's accomplishment has been celebrated across the continent with the likes of Didier Drogba all paying tribute to the striker.

His prolific goal scoring form has seen him become a target for German giants Bayern Munich as well as French side Paris-Saint Germain, as reported by GOAL.

The FIFA U17 World Cup winner's future will be decided in the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, Essien spent a season-and-a-half in the Italian Serie A with AC Milan between 2014 to 2015.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Former Ghana and Chelsea midfielder, Michael Essien has paid tribute to friend, Mesut Ozil, following his retirement from the game.

The ex-Germany and Real Madrid star announced his retirement on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, after 17 successful years in football.

The World Cup winner played together with Essien during the Ghanaian's brief loan spell at Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen has paid tribute to African football legend, George Weah, after breaking his long-standing Serie A record.

The Super Eagles striker netted his 47th Serie A goal - his 23 of the campaign - in the 1-0 win over Fiorentina on Sunday.

The 74th minute penalty against La Viola now places him above the former AC Milan striker, who held the record for 23 years.
