Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen has paid tribute to African football legend, George Weah, after breaking his long-standing Serie A record.

The Super Eagles striker netted his 47th Serie A goal - his 23 of the campaign - in the 1-0 win over Fiorentina on Sunday.

The 74th minute penalty against La Viola now places him above the former AC Milan striker, who held the record for 23 years.

While it took Weah five seasons to set the record, Osimhen needed three campaigns to reach 47 goals in Serie A.

"Yesterday, it was great honour breaking his record as the top scoring African player in Serie A history, an achievement I will forever cherish, Mr George Weah has set a foundation of excellence for individuals like me to emulate and his legacy will forever be remembered. I celebrate this milestone with everyone who has inspired and supported me in this journey. Thank you for your contributions, GOD IS THE GREATEST," he added.

Osimhen could go on and extend the record with four games to end the season. He currently leads the goal king chart with 23 goals.

The lanky forward is currently on the radar of German giants Bayern Munich and French side Paris-Saint Germain following his outstanding campaign this season.

Drogba celebrates Victor Osimhen

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Legendary African footballer, Didier Drogba has congratulated Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen following his leading role in Napoli's Serie A title success.

Osimhen scored 22 league goals as Napoli were crowned champions of Italy for the first time in 33 years, with four games to end the season.

The Super Eagles star scored in the 1-0 home win against Fiorentina as Napoli celebrated their latest triumph at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium.
