Xavi Hernandez isn’t counting his chickens before they hatch.

The Barcelona manager knows that his side are in a good position to win La Liga, but he also knows that there is still a bit of a way to go when it comes to wrapping up the title.

Xavi commented on Barcelona’s command over the league after Real Madrid’s latest defeat.

The defeat means that Barcelona have a chance to extend their lead at the top of the table to 15 points when they take on Girona on April 10.

Despite the chance to extend their lead to a massive 15 points, Xavi isn’t celebrating yet until the team have officially wrapped up the title.

Barcelona are more eager to wrap up the league title after their crushing defeat in the Copa del Rey. Real Madrid secured a 4-0 win in the second leg of their semi-final tie against the Catalan club, to win 4-1 on aggregate.

Barcelona faced criticism for the defeat, but Xavi insists that the loss hasn’t lessened their stellar season in any way, ESPN reported. He added that winning La Liga would define their season.

"We are talking about winning La Liga. I don't get it. Winning La Liga is the bee's knees. We have won five Champions Leagues in our history, which is really good, but is it demanded that we win it? Winning La Liga is being minimised when for us it will be extraordinary," he said.

Xavi on Real Madrid win

Xavi is giving credit where credit is due.

The Barcelona boss has hailed the quality of Real Madrid after they beat his side in the Copa del Rey.

Madrid won 4-0 thanks to a Karim Benzema hat trick to win the tie 4-1 on aggregate, Sports Brief reported.
