The 38-year-old's move to the Middle East brought its fair share of controversies including the decision by the Saudi club to appoint Ronaldo as club captain.

In the process, Abdullah Madu, who was the skipper of Al-Nassr, was stripped of his captaincy in favour of Cristiano.

Despite the quick turn of events, the decision has not ruffled feathers in the dressing room with the squad admitting Ronaldo's presence makes him the natural leader of the group.

"It'd be a little strange if the rest of the players are captaining Ronaldo," the Uzbekistan midfielder said as quoted by Daily Express.

The 29-year-old added they were not taken by surprise with the previous skipper willingly handing over his armband.

"We expected it. Our former captain willingly handed over the armband [to Cristiano Ronaldo] without any problems. I think this is the best solution. It cannot be otherwise."

He will be expected to lead Al-Nassr on Thursday, February 9 when they face Al-Wehda in the Saudi Pro League.

Al-Nassr celebrate Ronaldo's birthday

Saudi club Al-Nassr treated Cristiano Ronaldo to a special birthday celebration.

Ronaldo turned 38 on Sunday and has since been receiving warm messages from family, friends and most especially the football world.

Not to be left out of celebrating one of the greatest players of this era, Al-Nassr took it upon themselves to adore the former Manchester United and Real Madrid front man.

Ronaldo named captain

Sports Brief earlier reported that Cristiano Ronaldo has been named captain of the Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal combined XI for the friendly against Paris Saint-Germain.

Ronaldo is expected to make his first bow since his move to the gulf region against Lionel Messi's PSG on Thursday, January 19.

The 37-year-old's much-heralded Al-Nassr debut was delayed due to a ban slapped on him by the English FA, with the friendly against PSG expected to be his first on Saudi Arabian soil.
